Embedded firmware and PCB design consultancy, London
If you are a London or UK company that needs a board designed and its firmware written but has no embedded team, we can take it on. Grespi Technology Ltd is a UK engineering consultancy, and one of our own LoRaWAN nodes is now running as a trial unit in a plant room.
The problem
A company with a product idea but no one in house who designs PCBs or writes firmware needs both done, usually alongside the mechanical, radio, cloud and web work around them. One lead runs a project from the first call to delivery, and specialists join as the work needs them. Grespi Technology Ltd (Companies House 15148523) is an end-to-end engineering consultancy covering mechanical, electronics, firmware, radio, cloud and web, with a focus on IoT, robotics and automation. Alessio Grespi, who founded the company, is a MIET with a BEng Robotics (Loughborough) and an MSc Aerial Robotics (Bristol).
The team has studied at Cambridge, Imperial, Loughborough, Bristol, Glasgow, Bath, Leeds and KCL, and has worked at Amazon Robotics, ESA, TTP and on its own startups. Our examples are published with their stages: a cellular GPS tag whose schematic is finished and whose layout is in progress, a set of three drone boards at v0 design, and a LoRaWAN node in a trial of one unit. On PCB design we would take a product from the block diagram to a routed board, choosing parts with your assembly in mind.
On firmware we would write for the microcontroller or module the board uses, with recovery paths and fault records designed in from the first version. For connected products we would set up the radio link and the server behind it, using LoRaWAN, NB-IoT or BLE as the case needs, and for robots and automation we would write C++ or Python alongside the electronics. Whether your company is in London or elsewhere in the UK, the first step is the same: a short call to describe the product, where it will live and what it should report.
What we'd build
What we would do for a London or UK company
These are the services we would provide, each with our own work as the example and its honest stage.
| Layer | What we'd do | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| PCB design | Schematic, layout and routing in KiCad for products that need a custom board. | Our 4-in-1 ESC board is a v0 design |
| Embedded firmware | Firmware for battery-powered devices that have to run unattended. | Our LoRaWAN node firmware runs on a single trial unit |
| Connectivity | LoRaWAN, NB-IoT and BLE, from device to network server. | Uplinks from our node reach a ChirpStack server we host ourselves, via an indoor gateway |
| Robotics and automation | Control and application software in C++ and Python, with the electronics to match. | Our drone electronics stack is at v0 design |
How working with us goes
- 01 Scope We agree what has to be built, where it lives and where the data goes.
- 02 Prototype Working hardware and firmware on your bench, tested against real conditions.
- 03 Pilot A small batch on real sites, with fixes folded back into the design.
- 04 Production Design for manufacture, a production run, and support once it is in the field.
